Oh, the places you’ll go..

Today was Site Placement day!

Going into it I had little to no expectations. I really had no idea where I was going or where I wanted to go. In my site interview I had explained only that I wanted to be able to do English and Art Camps and to be near fellow volunteers. Oh, and if possible, to escape the mosquitoes (ha ha… a girl can dream?).

Deep in my mind, however, I had secretly wanted to say something along the lines of… put me on a mountain! Place me near the beach! But I knew that I needed to be flexible and I went into the whole thing knowing that no matter what, I would be content because this journey is less about my needs and more about serving the community I will live in for the next 2 years.

Imagine my surprise when I found out I would in fact be going to the deep south of Thailand, and that I would be living in a town right by the beach! My home for the next two years will be in Trang Province. Beautiful beaches, islands AND mountains are all included in this wonderful southern region. Not to mention a few National Parks and a handful of my FRIENDS!

After further research I found out that Trang is known for their delicious curries, cakes and Jasmine Tea. Literally 3 of my favorite things. Honestly, I feel blessed. The Universe was really looking out for me, I don’t feel like I could of been placed in a better area. I feel extremely lucky and I am so happy and excited to start my new life in Trang.

Google Trang. DO IT!

My counterparts seem to be very well educated and excited to work with me. I’m so excited to get the chance to work with them and with the kids at my school. Also, I’m excited to collaborate with my fellow nearby volunteers in Teacher Trainings and other after school Camps.

I’m really just excited for life, in general. How can I not be? I live in a beautiful Country with wonderfully warm and giving people. I’m challenged every day. Some days are harder than others. Some days I bike home and catch the sunset and all is right with the world. The roller coaster of emotions is real. But I know deep in my heart that this is where I’m supposed to be and my journey will prove to be something I needed.

Gosh, I’m so excited. I can’t wait to do more research. Also, PLEASE come to me! There is an airport in my province. You can fly right to me. We can take all of the boats to all of the islands. So much fun to be had.

Until next time!!
Peace, Love & Thai
